Who are we?
This is federally funded collaborative study on LHON-Plus/MS between the George Washington School of Medicine and the affiliated Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C. Scientists dedicated to translational research on mitochondrial diseases collaborate with neurologists at Children’s, a member of the North American Mitochondrial Disease Consortium.
What is the study?
For our pre-clinical study, we are looking for patients with LHON-Plus/MS to undergo a skin biopsy to test a novel pharmacological therapeutic strategy. Patients must be genetically diagnosed with one of the three relevant mitochondrial mutations.
What does it involve?
Skin biopsies (small punches of skin) will be performed on the inner arm near the elbow by Dr. Gropman, a pediatric neurologist specialized in mitochondrial diseases at Children’s National Health System. The biopsies will be performed at the D.C. or Annapolis location.
Where is the study located?
The team of scientists and clinicians is located in Washington, D.C.
